PARK FALLS -- Home cookin' has been good to the Park Falls High School girls' basketball team this season, and Coach Tom Armstrong was hoping to extend the streak in the Bird Cage this week.
Park Falls was host to Cameron Tuesday, Feb. 21, in the Cards' WIAA Div. 3 regional opener. The Cards host the regional semifinal at 7 p.m. tonight, Thursday, Feb. 23, if they beat Cameron Tuesday.
That win extended the Cards' home win streak to 16 games, dating back to Dec. 10, 2004, when Medford was the last visiting girls' basketball team to win in the Bird Cage. Park Falls was a perfect 10-0 at home this season, entering Tuesday night's regional tilt.
Last Tuesday's Valentine's Day win over Northwestern was sweet only in that it was a ‘w.' Twenty-eight turnovers -- 18 in the second half -- and 11-for-26 shooting (42%) from the free-throw line left a sour taste.
Park Falls held Northwestern scoreless in the third quarter -- extending a four-point halftime lead to 11 at 27-16 -- and to just six points in the second half.
Cassy Schemberger led Park Falls with 19 points and 10 rebounds, Morgan Stueber had eight points, six rebounds, four steals and four assists and Kelsey Christianson grabbed 10 rebounds and had four steals.
