Taylor Kilgore scored 20 of her game-high 26 points in the first half as Forest Lake Christian rolled to a 78-44 Sac-Joaquin Section Division V girls basketball playoff victory Thursday night at Turlock Christian.
By winning, the fifth-seeded Falcons improved their season record to 22-6 and advanced to the section semifinals next Tuesday in Galt. Forest Lake Christian will face Central Valley Christian League rival and No. 1-seed Sacramento Waldorf, an 81-18 victor against Sacramento Adventist on Thursday.
It was no small achievement to get past No. 3 Turlock Christian, which came into the game riding a 17-game win streak dating back to December. The Eagles ended their season with a 23-4 record.
"We were on the road four hours to get there, so it was really a satisfying win," Forest Lake Christian coach Steve Kellar said. "The whole team played solid. They have great height - they go 6-3, 6-0, 6-0, but great height can be negated by speed, and we have good speed."
The Falcons took a 17-9 lead after one quarter and then broke the game wide open with a 29-8 run through the second period. Kigore scored 13 of those 29 second-quarter points.
Kylie Miraldi also contributed 15 points and Jessica Clough 13 for the Falcons. Sophomore Kelsea Yates added nine points, MacKenzie Deneen seven, Kayla Campora four and Katie Fletcher four.
Three big wins on the doubles side lifted the Forest Lake Christian co-ed tennis team to a season-opening 5-4 win Thursday at home against Golden Sierra.
The Falcons also won the No. 1 and No. 2 girls doubles matches. The No. 1 team of Megan Wieczorek and Chelsea Hanson defeated Lauren Schultz and Stephanie Phillips 8-0, while the No. 2 team of Torrey Haddad and Ali Robinson defeated Amber Stone and Ester Lee 8-0.
Forest Lake Christian's remaining two wins came in the girls singles action. No. 1 Christy Humphrey defeated Regina Lee 6-2, 6-4, and Jenny Johnson defeated Courtney Canady 6-4, 6-2.
