But he draws the line at dating his female patients as the Singapore Medical Council's (SMC) code of ethics state that doctors must not have sexual relationships with their patients.
Dr Tan admits that he sometimes have to give students the benefit of a doubt and issue them medical certificates (MCs) even if he suspects they may be feigning illness to skip classes.
'We don't usually give MCs for illnesses like sore throats. And if they claim they have a fever or flu, we can easily find out if they're lying.
'With such a big crowd, I can't knock off at 6pm. Besides the tests, we also have to talk to the students about their family's medical history.
'All these mean I have to work overtime and I don't get paid extra. And if there are irregularities in the test results, we have to do extra checks to ascertain if the students have any health problems,' he said.
If he were a general practitioner, he would have to work longer hours to earn the same amount of money, as each housing estate has as many as 10 doctors.
